Nandita Das, Mahesh Bhatt grace the Kara Film Festival in Pakistan

Actress turned filmmaker Nandita Das along with Mahesh Bhatt made their presence felt at the annual Kara Film Festival in Karachi, Pakistan

Post the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai, relations between India and Pakistan seemed to have strained even more, hence not many film personalities from India graced the event. However it was heartening to see Nandita and Mahesh Bhatt grace the event one day before its conclusion.

It was a moment of pride and joy for Nandita Das as her maiden directorial venture Firaaq bagged the 'Best Film' award at the festival. The film was screened on Saturday (14th Feb).

Both Bhatt and Das were of the opinion that festivals like these provide a great forum to interact with like-minded people from different parts of the world, especially during troubled times, when the exchange of people and artistes becomes all the more important as a part of the peace process.

Around 120 short films, 60 documentaries and 50 feature films were screened at this year's edition of the Kara Film Festival.

Anand Raj Anand to compose the theme song for Shilpa's IPL team

Just recently we heard that the curvy actress and yoga aficionado Shilpa Shetty along with her beau Raj Kundra had invested in the IPL. This has promised to give the sport some much needed Bollywood glamour quotient. However, we now hear that following in Shilpa's footsteps is yet another Bollywood resident Anand Raj Anand who will be entertaining us this IPL season.

Anand Raj Anand will be composing a theme song for Shilpa's team - the Rajasthan Royals. The composer who is a close friend of Shilpa was approached by the actress who had earlier said that she would also be making a music video for the team.

Apparently, the basic song of the Rajasthan Royals ('Halla Bol') will remain unchanged, but the music that accompanies it will be changed. Besides this, the anthem of the team will have elements from typical Rajasthani folk music. The lyrics of the anthem will be some what like, 'Phir vahi lalkar hai, phir kanon mein goonj rahi jeet ki jhankar hai.' as for the vocals, Anand Raj Anand will croon the song himself along with Monali Thakur who will be the female vocalist.

Delhi-6 to have Middle East premiere at the Dubai International Film Festival

UTV Motion Pictures in association with The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) today announced the Middle East premiere of Delhi-6, the keenly awaited collaboration of UTV Motion Pictures and BAFTA-nominated director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra (Rang De Basanti), at a special evening in Dubai on February 18.

The film's cast, including Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor and director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, will be present at the DIFF premiere ahead of the Middle East release on February 19th. The first glimpses of the upcoming blockbuster were shown in December at DIFF's fifth edition before an audience of international press and visitors.

DIFF Artistic Director Masoud Amralla al Ali stated, "Since our first edition, DIFF has been committed to showcasing the best of Indian cinema and Bollywood, one of the most dynamic and exciting filmmaking centres in the world. Not only is Dubai home to a large Indian population, bringing in massive box office returns for Indian films, but the city's location between East and West allows DIFF to introduce our guests from the Middle East and abroad to India's rich cinema culture. Delhi-6, with its themes of community, belonging and love, falls perfectly in line with DIFF's credo, 'Building Bridges, Meeting Minds.' We are honoured to provide a platform for UTV and Rakeysh Mehra to share their newest great collaboration with Dubai audiences."

The premiere will take place at the Grand Cineplex on February 18.

Delhi-6 is 2 hours 18 mins Long

At 2 hours 18 minutes, Delhi-6 is Rakeysh Mehra's shortest film to date.

"But it's not as if I've made a conscious decision to shorten the film," averred Rakeysh Mehra just before he left for the US. "Every film has its own length, its own destiny. Who am I to decide how long a film should be? The script decides it for the film."

While Rakeysh's directorial debut Aks and Rang De Basanti were far longer in duration, Delhi-6 is shorter in spite of the large number of actors and characters.

Says Rakeysh, "I left the film's length to my editor Bharati (Bharati is the director's wife and has edited all his three films so far). After I completed my shooting and surrendered the footage to her I wasn't even allowed to enter the editing room. So what you'll see in the film is what Bharati decided to retain."
